Places to Hike
HIKING THE LOXAHATCHEE REGION
With nearly 200 miles of the Florida Trail within a couple hour’s drive and dozens of shorter nature walks nearby, there’s never been a better reason to get out and hike!
OUR TWO MAJOR TRAILS
Okeechobee Section, Florida Trail (113.8 miles)
Entirely circling Lake Okeechobee, the Florida Trail atop the Herbert Hoover Dike provides panoramas unparalleled in South Florida. For logistical specifics, view or print out our fact sheet (PDF file)
Ocean to Lake Trail (63 miles)
Connecting Hobe Sound with Lake Okeechobee, this new spur of the Florida Trail is slated to fully open when several bridges are permitted and Riverbend Park in Jupiter opens. It runs through Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Riverbend County Park, Corbett WMA, Dupuis Reserve, and along South Florida Water Management District canals. When complete, it will provide backpackers with a challenging wilderness trek within an easy drive of the urban east coast of Florida.
