THE HIKE
On opening day, the walkers will leave the Pahokee Marina (near downtown Pahokee) and head north on the Herbert Hoover Dike. The first day will offer two options for the walkers; a twelve mile walk to Port Mayaca, or a three mile walk to Canal Point. The following 8 days will consist of nine to fourteen mile walks that will bring us back to Pahokee on the 29th of November.
There is no registration fee but hikers are responsible for paying for their own accommodations and meals. Do not pre-reserve campsites; they will be held for the group at a special rate. Participants must join in the nightly logistical meeting at 7 PM and we appreciate your assistance in planning and participating in shuttles each day for you and your fellow hikers.
2010 GROUP CAMPING
Special rates are negotiated with our two host sites. Please do not make separate arrangments with these sites for camping, but plan to camp with us. Of course, you are welcome to camp elsewhere or stay in a motel if you wish.
Nov 19-20-21-22-23 (Sat through Tue night) KOA Okeechobee, Okeechobee, FL on US 441 (Parrott Ave). Amenities include pool, hot tub, tiki bar, golfing, showers, laundry, on site camp store and easy access to downtown restaurants and stores. PAYMENT BY CASH OR CHECK ONLY to the Big O Wagonmaster, who will coordinate the group.
Nov 24-25-26-27 (Wed through Sat) South Bay RV Park, South Bay, off US 27 right next to the trail. Amenities include showers, laundry, large grassy common area.
